Thornton weekly report week ending 5th June

Tel: 01530 230807

For most of last week we had ideal conditions, overcast with a breeze resulting in great surface sport, by the weekend the forecast indicated warmer brighter conditions which arrived, however most anglers still caught their fish high in the water.

Monday T Pegg used cruncher and diawl bach to record 13 trout to 4lb2oz, Tony Bokenham fished black buzzer to catch 6 trout to 3lb8oz, on Tuesday Mark Hunt fished a morning session with size 14 hoppers and cruncher to record 14 trout. Chris Sayer fished a morning session catching 8 trout with Dave Saunt also fishing the morning catching 13, with damsels hatching in increasing numbers Neil James fished damsel nymph to catch his 6 trout. Martin Clay made the most of Saturdays mornings cloud cover catching 10 on buzzers with Andy Hubbard catching 4 fish to 4lb8oz on a damsel nymph for his morning session

As the week progressed size of fly became important with size 14 buzzers and dries working best with floating lines, midge tips or intermediate lines.

Late evening has been excellent Ged Odonoghue and Mark Hunt caught well into double figures on their evenings visit, the method, fish on the drift, low diameter line and size 14 sparsely dressed hoppers, wirh Ged using a bushy fly on the top dropper as an attractor

Best patterns, size14 green or black buzzers, size14 suspender buzzer. Dries size14 – hopper, owl, big red. Nymph – damsel, cruncher. Lures – Muddler

Water clarity is excellent. Rod average 3.1

No sign yet of pin fry but we expect to see them this week!
