Thornton Weekly update week ending 19/05/13

119 rods caught 357 trout for rod average 3.0

Good hatches of buzzer are providing good surface sport with the trout now spreading themselves throughout the reservoir. But as always some areas hold more fish than others, the farm bank lightly fished so far this year is now producing excellent catches. Thornton arm the wood and wood bank corner are still producing good sport as they have for a number of weeks.

In the main a floating line with buzzer, diawl bach and damsel patterns have produced best with a midge tip or intermediate during the brighter conditions.

Water clarity is excellent with our water temperature just under 12 degrees, a little cool for the time of year but 12 – 16 degrees is great for trout fishing.

David Price caught a 4lb8oz rainbow, Jim Retallic caught 5lb14oz rainbow, M Needham 4lb rainbow, with a good number of trout 3lb+ showing again this week

On the warmer evenings we are seeing a good evening rise our last 4 hour permit  £10.00 1 fish kill+ catch & release with boat for £4.00 offers excellent value to fish the evening rise.
