Thornton fishing report week ending 15/07/2012

Posted by & filed under Reports.

A mixed weeks fishing, with the weather / rain yet again having an impact, by Friday morning our water level had returned to normal, only for it to rain Friday night & with the ground totally saturated its unsurprising the level once again went up, wellingtons were required to walk onto the pontoon Saturday morning. By Sunday the extra water had run off and you could once again get onto the pontoon in shoes.

Its not ideal but with the ground as wet as it is any rain is going to bring the level up, however as soon as it stops raining the level will start to return to normal, I suggest you contact the lodge for latest info before you travel.

Our water clarity despite all this rain and water levels up, then down & then up again is surprisingly good with visibility at least 3ft.

Last week 99 rods caught 217 trout for rod average 2.2 with the majority of the trout falling to intermediate or floating lines with damsel, buzzer, hares ear & blob.

Best area, shallows of the Thornton arm, orange buoys, green bay, farm bank.

Standard and quality of the trout coming out is excellent with most in the 2b – 4lb range.
