The cooler forecasted weather did come and certainly helped with surface water temperature starting most days at 17.5 degrees
Most anglers concentrated their fishing over the deeper water located in front of the dam, orange buoy and green bay.
As the cooler conditions continued we surprisingly found a large number of trout had moved into the shallower water at the top of the Thornton arm, Alan Bradford caught two missing other during a short 2 hour session with the trout coming to big red and small G&H sedge. Russ Martin won the Thornton Fly Fishers competition from this area boating 5 trout. Mark Hunt took our advice and went up the arm fishing his sparsely tied cruncher and damsel patterns to boat 11 trout.
John Considine fished the green bay area and enjoyed a red letter day catching 15 on a popper hopper and green diawl bach. Clive Holt caught 7 for his late evening visit with Peter Wurm and his son boating 5 for their last 4 hour session.
This morning we opened to a surface temperature of 18 degrees, looking at the forecast the morning session 8.30am – 3.00pm will fish best.

New for 2017, Thornton has joined the Troutmasters competition, entry forms to be found next to the booking out sheet you will need a member of staff to countersign your entry, good luck and get those entries rolling in.
