Thornton weekly report week ending 28th February

Thornton continues to fish with boat & bank anglers catching from the shallows of the Thornton arm down past the corner of the wood towards lonesome pine.

Boats with the frosty mornings generally fared better during the first half of the day as the fish moved off the bank but as the daytime temperature improved the trout moved back into the shallows giving the bank anglers some excellent sport.

A real mixture of methods & flies caught this past week with the floater, intermediate & fast sinking lines all working with the snake, booby, tadpole, cats whisker, damsel, buzzer, diawl bach & apps bloodworm all taking fish.

The theme throughout the week was “fish it slowly” at times slower the better.

The rod average for the week was 4.3 with our surface water temperature hovering between 5 – 6 degrees.

Boat anglers are to give way to bank anglers if asked & keep 40 yards from them.

If you’re coming to fish the bank we recommend you bring waders.
